Because We Are Muslim.
By Salsabila Chasia Nurhidajat (5 years old)
This is story about me.
I was born at May 17th, 1999 in DCH.
My mom and dad came from Indonesia. All my families in Indonesia. But my mom always said I have families in here. I don’t understand why they are my families?
I am not look like them. I don’t understand what they say. But why they are my families?
I really want to see my grandma, grandpa, cousin, uncles and aunties. But they are far away from my home. They can’t come to visit me. I can’t go to visit them. I have to go to school every day.
One day, one of my friends at school told to me about visited her grandma in Kentucky. I was sad because I can’t to do like my friends. I told to my mom, I want to visit my families. My mom said we can’t go to Indonesia, but we can visit our families. My mom bring me to the mesjid at night. I don’t understand why I have to go to mesjid, if I want to visit my families.
Someday, my mom told me, we will have guest from Mobile. They are our families. I asked my mom, who are they? She said they are uncle Muhammad, untie Eman and their kids. I am so happy to hear that. But I don’t understand why they are my families?
They are not Indonesian. They are Egyptian. They speak Arabic and their face are different. My mom just smile to hear what I said. She gives me hug and kiss. She said, “ Because they are Muslim. All Muslim families. That mean you have uncle, aunties, cousin around the word.”
“Wow, I have million of families. I can’t imagine that. But I still have question, why they never visit me?”
My mom said,” Because they are busy, honey.”
“But mommy, I still remember my friends and my families, event I am busy! But why they forgot about me?!”
My mom just smile. She come to me, hug me and rub my back.
She asked me,” Are you proud being a Muslim?
“Yes, mommy because I have million of families. Event though their never visited me. They forgot about me because they are busy.”
